Review: The Candy House by Jennifer Egan
This is my first Jennifer Egan book, though I definitely heard wonderful things about A Visit from the Goon Squad. That being said, I'm quite pleased with The Candy House being my introduction.

Apples Never Fall was so overhyped by the bookclub scene that I really didn't have this on my TBR list. Another Mom drama, right? About a neighborhood struggling with mundane issues that entertain, but you'll forget about when the next one comes along. But boy was this another reminder to not judge a book by its cover (and to give mom bookclubs a bit more credit).
Let's just pretend February 1st is actually January 1st, okay? Okay. The first month of the year was busy, and I'll talk about that in another post (maybe! I'm unpredictable!), but finally we're getting back into the swing of things. While I'm getting over a bout of COVID (oh yes, it got me), I figured I would drop an update here regarding my reading. That's a topic I haven't brought up in a while! I completed a grand total of 3 books this January. Rough start, huh? My reading habits have been all out of wack the past couple of months, but that's okay -- even for a book blogger. That's an uncomfortable fact I'm grappling with at the moment.
I feel like I'm always saying something along these lines, but I've been meaning to read Chibundu Onuzo's Welcome to Lagos for some time now. Too many books, always. Anyways, I got lucky with this one falling into my audiobook queue curtesy of my favorites over at libro.fm. This. Has. Everything. I don't remember the last time I was so caught up in a story, but Sankofa kept me hanging. The writing is fresh, quick, and enthralling. I will most definitely be hunting down a copy of Welcome to Lagos because even though I know it is a different story following different characters, I just want more of Onuzo's writing.
